How to set up your swissmail.org account with Netscape 6.

You will need the following information for the setup with Netscape 6:

  • Your Incoming Mail Server (POP/IMAP) and Server Port Number

  • Your Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)

  • Your email login name (user name/account name)

  • Your email address


You will find the necessary information by accessing your account at http://www.swissmail.org. To get your account specific information, click on the ControlCenter button, log into your account, click on "Accountdata" in the left hand navigation menu and scroll down to "Mailbox (POP3/IMAP) access settings".

Now you are ready to get started!

In Netscape, go to the Edit menu and select Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings...



Select your account (e.g. swissmail) from the menu on the left in the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window to see your Account Settings.

Account Name: This will be your top folder name in the Name section on the left. Enter any name you like (e.g. Swissmail, John, John Smith etc.).

Idendtity

Your Name: Type your name the way you would like people to see it when they get an email from you.

E-mail address: Enter your swissmail.org email address.

Reply-to Address: Optional or enter your swissmail.org email address.

Organization: Optional.



Select Server Settings from the menu on the left in the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window to see your Server Settings.

Port: Enter the appropriate port number of the IMAP/POP mail server (incoming).

Server Settings

Use secure connection (SSL) tick box: select this box only if you have chosen the secure IMAP/POP mail server.



Select Copies and Folders from the menu on the left in the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window to see your Copy and Folder Settings.

When sending messages, automatically:

Select/type options as shown on the screen shot above.

Drafts and Templates:

Select/type options as shown on the screen shot above.


  Select Outgoing Server (SMTP) from the menu on the left in the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window to see your Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings.

Server name: Enter the respective outgoing mail server (SMTP), e.g. for secure email access: secure.swissmail.org and for non-secure email access: smtp.swissmail.org etc.
